Maps in the mail

Over the last couple days, I received tourist maps in the mail from GVB (Guam) and MVA (Saipan, Tinian, and Rota). Some interesting and helpful info was included, so I think I will be able to make more headway on the Google Mapmaker project.

  1. Three readers, now. I was all into maps while living on Saipan. The USGS topo map was tantalizing, but so many of the marked "jeep trails/paths" had been built on or overgrown, many of my journeys ended in sweat and failure. Naftan Point was always a fun road. A couple years back someone marked the fortifications and cleared some brush. Never did make it from Kannat Tabla to Tapacho, close but no cigar.
For five bucks the memorial park gift shop had a decent map of the old japanese fortifications, never saw it digitally, but if I still have a copy, I'll get it scanned and send it along.
Have fun with your project. Mark Scease

  2. The newest maps from MVA have been revised recently (a little over a year ago) by our very own staff who actually went around the islands to make sure that the roads listed on the map actuall exist. The last maps we had had roads that didn't exist anymore due to structure or was just never existent since ever since...LOL!

  3. Go to http://maps.google.com/mapmaker and type in "Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands"... you can see some of my changes there. I used Wil Maui's 2000 "Maui Business Pages" as a reference. I would love to get more detailed maps of the other islands.
